Considering that protests about discrimination in the hiring and pay of women in academia led to Title IX’s creation 50 years ago, it’s somewhat shocking to see that Harvard University’s tenured faculty still consists mainly of white men — 57%. White women comprise 22%. Only 7% of tenured faculty positions go to women of color, while men of color fill 14% of tenured jobs.

The California Faculty Association issued a statement criticizing California State University system trustees and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo administrators for allowing disgraced former CSU Chancellor Joseph I. Castro to teach as a tenured professor in 2023.

Hundreds of students at American University, Washington, D.C. walked out of classes to protest what they called an inadequate response by administrators to sexual assaults on campus. In Washington State, Central Washington University‘s president outlined some steps that the university will take in response to student protests about mismanagement of Title IX, and students said protests will continue until administrators commit to more concrete actions.

A federal judge appointed by former President Trump in Texas temporarily blocked Biden Administration policies that aimed to protect transgender students and workers in 20 states that adopted anti-transgender laws. The Ohio State Board of Education was set to vote today on a resolution objecting to Title IX protections for transgender students.

On the up side

George Washington University, Washington, D.C. is preparing to require Title IX training for all faculty and staff, anticipating approval of proposed Title IX regulations by the Biden Administration that would mandate this at all colleges and universities.
